  • From the Desk of Our COO: Why Leadership Matters in Air Medical Transport

In air medical transport, leadership is not theoretical—it is operational, clinical, and deeply human. Every decision impacts a patient’s safety, a family’s peace of mind, and a crew’s ability to deliver care under pressure. Maureen Nordike, COO As Chief Operating Officer of Atlas Air Ambulance, my role is to ensure that clinical excellence, operational discipline, and compassion remain inseparable—on every mission, every day. Experience That Shapes Operations I bring more than 20 years of experience as a licensed registered nurse  and 15 years in air medical transport , supported by a BSN from St. Louis University  and an MBA from Webster University . My career has been grounded in critical care medicine and expanded through executive leadership in emergency and air medical services. Previously, I led a multidisciplinary team of over 60 healthcare and operational professionals , consistently exceeding performance benchmarks while strengthening safety culture, regulatory compliance, and patient satisfaction. My areas of expertise include: Fixed-wing air medical operations and mission oversight Critical care transport standards and clinical governance Regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness Safety, quality, and risk management Revenue optimization aligned with patient-centered outcomes Leadership, for me, has always been personal. As a registered nurse, I learned early on that every patient represents a family waiting on the other end of a phone call —and as a mom of two, that reality hits even closer to home. I understand what it feels like to place your trust in a medical team during uncertain moments. That perspective shapes how I lead at Atlas Air Ambulance. I care deeply about how our teams communicate, how we support families through fear and urgency, and how we hold ourselves accountable when it matters most. My passion comes from knowing that behind every mission is someone’s child, parent, or loved one—and that responsibility is never lost on me. Leadership Philosophy : Patients First, Always Operational success in air medical transport cannot come at the expense of clinical integrity. At Atlas, we align performance metrics with outcomes that matter—safe transport, appropriate medical care, and clear communication with families and facilities. “Families don’t experience our organization through policies or dashboards—they experience it through how we communicate, how we advocate, and how safely we deliver their loved one.”  — Maureen Nordike, BSN, MBA Community Roots, National Reach Atlas Air Ambulance is proud to be locally rooted while serving patients nationwide and internationally. Our Jacksonville foundation reinforces accountability—to our hospital partners, our crews, and the families who trust us during life-altering moments. Leadership in air medical transport is measured in outcomes, not titles. At Atlas Air Ambulance , we lead with clinical expertise, operational discipline, and an unwavering commitment to patient safety—because lives depend on it. • A Note from Our President: Looking Ahead to 2026

As we look ahead to 2026, one thing remains constant at Atlas Air Ambulance: our unwavering commitment to safety, clinical integrity, and responsible growth. The landscape of fixed-wing air medical transport continues to evolve—longer missions, higher-acuity patients, and increasingly complex care environments. Meeting those demands requires more than expansion alone. It requires disciplined operations, experienced leadership, and a culture that prioritizes doing things the right way, every time. In the year ahead, Atlas is focused on strengthening our safety framework , including the pursuit of additional aviation and medical safety certifications that further reinforce our operational standards and accountability. These efforts reflect our belief that safety is not a milestone—it is a continuous process of evaluation, improvement, and transparency. We are also preparing for the potential addition of another aircraft to our fleet , allowing us to better serve patients while maintaining the level of care, reliability, and oversight our partners and families expect. Growth, for us, is intentional and patient-centered—never at the expense of safety or quality. Safety at Atlas is not a checklist. It is a culture that guides every decision, from mission acceptance and crew training to clinical oversight and patient advocacy. I am incredibly proud of the teams who uphold that standard every day, and confident in the path ahead as we continue building a stronger, safer future together. • Clinical Insight at 30,000 Feet: A Perspective from Our VP of Fixed Wing Operations

When medical care moves from a hospital floor to a fixed-wing aircraft, the environment changes—but the expectations for safety, precision, and clinical excellence do not. Delivering high-level care in the air requires planning, experience, and leadership that understands both medicine and aviation. As a registered nurse with over 30 years of clinical experience , including extensive work in critical care and flight nursing , I’ve built my career around ensuring that patients receive hospital-level care—no matter how far they need to travel. Experience That Shapes Every Mission In addition to my clinical background, I bring 17 years of leadership experience managing air medical flight operations , overseeing complex domestic and international transports that demand seamless coordination between medical teams, flight crews, hospitals, and insurers. I hold degrees in Nursing  and an MBA with a specialization in Healthcare Administration , allowing me to approach air medical transport through both a clinical and operational lens. That combination is essential when decisions must balance patient acuity, aircraft capabilities, regulatory compliance, and real-world logistics. My expertise includes: Fixed-wing air ambulance clinical oversight Critical care transport protocols and crew readiness Global air ambulance mission coordination Operational efficiency and quality improvement Strategic partnerships with hospitals and healthcare systems Navigating Compliance, Coverage & Patient Protections Air medical transport exists within a highly regulated and often misunderstood healthcare space. A critical part of my role is ensuring that Atlas Air Ambulance operates with full transparency and compliance—protecting both patients and families. I bring deep working knowledge of: CMS guidelines Insurance authorization and reimbursement protocols The No Surprises Act , ensuring patient protections and accurate billing practices “Families deserve clarity—not confusion—when it comes to coverage, care decisions, and costs. Our job is to advocate for them while maintaining the highest clinical standards.” Leadership Through Clinical Integrity Every operational decision we make is rooted in one question: Is this the safest and most appropriate option for the patient?  From crew training to mission acceptance criteria, clinical judgment remains at the center of our operations. At Atlas Air Ambulance , fixed-wing medical transport is guided by experience, integrity, and accountability. When care takes flight, patients deserve leadership that understands what’s at stake—clinically, operationally, and personally! Jennie Van Dongen, MBA, RN VP of Fixed Wing Operations Jennie.VanDongen@flyatlasair.com

  • The Future of Fixed-Wing Air Ambulance: Why Experience Still Matters Most

The need for dependable, safe, and clinically sound fixed-wing air medical transport is increasing every year. As hospital systems become more regionalized and specialty care often lies hundreds or thousands of miles away, medical air transport has shifted from a rare emergency option into an essential part of modern healthcare logistics. Atlas Air Ambulance’s mission is clear: provide fixed-wing air medical transportation with the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and clinical excellence, especially in the moments that matter most.   Demand & Scope of Fixed-Wing Air Ambulance Fixed-wing air ambulance serves a wide range of needs, including ICU-level medical transfers, long-distance transport, international repatriation, and complex care continuity that cannot be met by ground transport or commercial travel. Atlas Air Ambulance’s fleet — including reliable aircraft like the Pilatus PC-12 and King Air 360 — is medically configured for advanced care while ensuring access to remote runways and extended ranges. This expansive capability aligns with the organization’s vision of ensuring swift access to advanced medical care for patients regardless of geography — from local transfers in Florida to missions across the United States and into Canada, South America, and the Caribbean. Experience as the Foundation of Safety & Excellence In an industry where every decision can impact a patient’s survival and comfort, experience remains the differentiator  between safe, predictable care and inconsistent outcomes. “Innovation without experience can introduce risk. Our responsibility is to advance care without compromising safety.” — Maureen Nordike, BSN, MBA, Chief Operating Officer Atlas Air Ambulance’s leadership — spanning decades of combined clinical, operational, and aviation expertise — ensures that every mission is planned and executed with meticulous attention to patient stability, continuity of care, and environmental safety. This includes rigorous clinical protocols, continuity planning from bedside to bedside, and seamless coordination with sending and receiving facilities. Clinical Oversight Beyond the Basics Medical air transport is not simply an ambulance in the sky. The clinical teams at Atlas Air Ambulance are trained to deliver interventions that mirror a hospital environment, with critical care nurses, paramedics, and medical professionals who undergo advanced certification and ongoing training. “Every patient we transport deserves hospital-level care, regardless of altitude or distance.” — Jennie Van Dongen, MBA, RN, VP of Fixed Wing Operations That level of clinical oversight is central to the organization’s quality standards and supports better outcomes, especially for patients requiring continuous monitoring or intervention while in flight. Safety as a Living Practice Safety is not a tagline — it’s a structured process rooted in FAA 135 compliance, well-maintained and medically outfitted aircraft, and adherence to the highest aviation and healthcare standards.  Atlas Air Ambulance’s values explicitly prioritize safety, accountability, and clinical excellence as core pillars of every mission. Leadership reinforces this commitment: “As we evolve into 2026, our dedication to safety — in systems, crews, communication, and clinical care — remains unwavering.” — Jackson Skigen, President, Atlas Air Ambulance Innovation That Serves Patients, Not Buzzwords As the air medical transport landscape grows more complex with new technologies and data tools, the measure of success at Atlas Air Ambulance isn’t the flashiest upgrades — it’s whether innovation tangibly improves patient outcomes, communication with families and clinicians, and predictability of care. This means embracing tools that support: Better pre-flight medical assessment and coordination Real-time clinical input and monitoring Safer cabin environment and equipment redundancy Clear logistics and communication throughout the transport journey Patient & Family-Centered Care in Practice Atlas Air Ambulance also places high value on clarity and compassion — two factors often overlooked in medical transport. From cost-conscious planning and insurance navigation to allowing family companions onboard when clinically appropriate, each step is designed to reduce stress and support families through challenging transitions. Looking Ahead: A Future Grounded in Expertise The future of fixed-wing air medical transport will be defined not by aircraft alone, but by who stands behind the decisions, the systems they build, and the values that guide those systems.  With a mission grounded in safety, clinical excellence, and integrity, Atlas Air Ambulance is positioned not just to keep pace with industry evolution — but to shape it for the better. Experience isn’t just a resume bullet point — it’s the foundation on which every safe air medical mission is built. As Atlas Air Ambulance heads into 2026 and beyond, that expertise — from leadership to flight crew, from medical teams to case coordinators — will continue to be the standard by which every mission is measured.

  • Pediatric Plane Transport: Safe, Reliable & Experienced with Atlas Air Ambulance

When a child’s health demands rapid, specialized transport across states, you need more than just any air ambulance service — you need one built for the pediatric patient. At Atlas Air Ambulance , based in Jacksonville, Florida, we have the training and capabilities to provide safe, prompt, and high-quality critical care for infants and children who require medical flight services . Why Pediatric Plane Transport Is Unique Transporting pediatric patients is fundamentally different from adult transport. Children have unique physiology, medical needs, and sensitivities that require precision and preparation. Pediatric physiology:  A child’s airway, fluid balance, thermoregulation, and metabolic reserves differ significantly from adults. During flight, these differences can magnify stressors. Specialized equipment and monitoring:  Ventilators, infusion pumps, pediatric circuits, and monitors must be appropriately sized and calibrated. Highly trained pediatric critical care crew:  Our medical teams have pediatric critical care training and the capabilities to anticipate and manage pediatric-specific risks. Coordination with referring and receiving hospitals:  Communication must be seamless, from pediatric specialists at origin to pediatric intensive care (PICU) teams at destination. Speed matters:  In many pediatric emergencies, the faster the transport, the better the outcome. We plan for the most direct routes and manage logistics end-to-end. In contrast, neonatal (newborn) transport involves additional highly specialized care (e.g. incubators, neonatal ventilators, thermoregulation), and is outside our scope . We focus on children beyond the neonatal period, but will happily help you find a company that can! Why Choose Atlas Air Ambulance for Pediatric Transports? Bed-to-bed service:  From the moment we pick up your child until they are safely handed over to the receiving medical team, we maintain continuity of care. 24/7 readiness:  Our dispatch center operates around the clock to respond to pediatric transport requests. Experienced pediatric teams:  Our staff includes pediatric critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians with the training and capabilities to manage complex pediatric transports. Nationwide reach:  We fly across the U.S., coordinating logistics including ground transfers, air traffic, and medical handoffs. Collaboration with leading children’s hospitals:  Over the years, we’ve worked with many of the top pediatric medical centers in the U.S. (see below).
