Job Description: The Flight Nurse provides advanced critical care and life support to patients during air

medical transport. This role demands high-level clinical expertise, quick decision-making

skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. The Flight Nurse collaborates

closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standard of patient care and

safety during transport


Responsibilities:


Patient Care:

• Provide critical care to patients during air medical transport.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and implement appropriate medical

interventions.

• Administer medications, IV fluids, and advanced airway management as necessary

in accordance with Atlas Air Ambulance Medical Guidelines.

• Performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Atlas Air Ambulance

Medical Director(s).

• Monitor and interpret vital signs, EKGs, and other diagnostic data.


Transport Operations:

• Assist in the safe loading and unloading of patients into the aircraft.

• Maintain clear and e]ective communication with the flight team, dispatch, and

facilities.

• Ensure all medical equipment and supplies are properly stocked and maintained.

• Ensure all medical equipment and supplies are secured with take-off and landing.

• Serves as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel when transporting

specialty patients by fixed wing aircraft.


Documentation and Reporting:

• Accurately document patient care activities, assessments, and interventions.

• Prepare detailed patient care reports and ensure timely submission to appropriate

parties.


Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with flight nurses, flight paramedics, pilots, and other EMS personnel.

  • Participate in pre-flight briefings, post-flight debriefings, and ongoing training sessions.

  • Act as a preceptor and/or participate in the orientation of new employees and students as assigned, while communicating program goals and objectives.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety of patients, crew, and aircraft.

  • Maintain current knowledge of aviation regulations and emergency procedures.

  • Participate regularly in Atlas Air Ambulance meetings, activities, projects, and committees.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida and/or Compact License.

  • NREMT Registered Paramedic with valid Florida License preferred.

  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification preferred. Required within eighteen months of hire date.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or equivalent certification.

  • FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, 5.a

  • Valid Passport


Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an ICU, ER, or critical care setting.

  • Previous flight experience preferred.


Skills:

  • Strong clinical and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to understand and adhere to Atlas Air Ambulance policies, procedures and protocols.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Ability to work electively in high-pressure situations.

  • Proficiency in the use of medical equipment and technology.


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in confined aircraft spaces and varying environmental conditions.

  • Tolerance for altitude changes, noise, vibration, and extended transport times.

  • Frequent lifting, moving, and carrying of patients and equipment.

  • Extended periods of standing, kneeling, and sitting.

  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
