Fixed-Wing Air Ambulance & Clinical Capabilities

Atlas Air Ambulance provides fixed-wing medical air transport for patients who need safe, coordinated care over long distances. Our team supports hospitals, case managers, discharge planners, patients, and families with medical flight coordination designed around the patient’s condition, destination, and required level of care.

From hospital-to-hospital transfers to domestic and international medical repatriation, each flight is planned with attention to medical needs, aviation logistics, aircraft availability, weather, distance, and receiving facility requirements. Our goal is to make the air ambulance process clear, clinically appropriate, and carefully managed from the first call through arrival.

Whether you are a clinical professional coordinating a patient transfer or a family member searching for help for a loved one, Atlas Air Ambulance provides guidance, communication, and experienced support throughout the medical transport process.

Clinical Capabilities for Medical Air Transport

A carefully selected medical flight team for complex patient needs.

Atlas Air Ambulance is built to support a wide range of medical transport situations, from stable long-distance patient transfers to complex critical care flights. Our medical flight crews are not generic transport staff. They are carefully selected for their background, certifications, clinical judgment, and experience in high-acuity care environments.

Each patient transport is reviewed around the patient’s condition, diagnosis, medications, mobility, oxygen needs, equipment requirements, and destination. From there, Atlas coordinates the appropriate medical crew, aircraft setup, and clinical plan for the flight.

This allows our team to support medically fragile patients, ICU-level transports, post-surgical patients, pediatric cases, cardiac or respiratory monitoring needs, and domestic or international medical repatriation with confidence and care.

Clinical Capabilites

Medical Air Transport Support for Hospitals and Case Managers

Hospitals, case managers, social workers, discharge planners, and physicians often need a dependable air medical transport partner when a patient requires long-distance transfer, a higher level of care, or safe transportation closer to home.

Atlas Air Ambulance assists with fixed-wing medical transport coordination by gathering the patient’s clinical and logistical details, reviewing the requested route, and helping determine the appropriate medical flight resources for the transport.

Our team can support:

  • Hospital-to-hospital air ambulance transfers

  • ICU and critical care air medical transport

  • Long-distance medical flights

  • Domestic medical transport

  • International medical repatriation

  • Patient transfers to specialty hospitals or rehabilitation facilities

  • Bedside-to-bedside medical transport coordination

  • Communication between sending and receiving facilities

  • Family companion coordination when appropriate

  • Insurance and documentation support when applicable

We understand that clinical teams need clear communication, timely updates, and a transport partner that respects both the medical complexity and the operational urgency of patient movement.

Support for Case Manager

Experienced Aviation Crew for Medical Transport

Safe air ambulance service depends on both clinical readiness and aviation experience. Atlas Air Ambulance supports each medical flight with aviation professionals who understand the planning required for patient transport.

Flight Operations

We operate with a two-pilot crew on all flights, ensuring redundancy and safety at all times.

Our pilots hold current pilot licenses and medical certificates, along with ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) ratings, demonstrating their high level of skill and proficiency.

Pilot Development Program

Atlas Air Ambulance has established a Pilot Development Program to support continued education, training, and professional growth for our pilots. Air medical transport requires strong aviation judgment and the ability to adapt to real-world conditions. Ongoing training helps our pilots stay current with industry standards, safety practices, and the unique demands of fixed-wing medical transport.

In-House Flight and Maintenance Crews

Atlas Air Ambulance employs its own flight and maintenance crews. This gives us stronger oversight of our aircraft, our operations, and our readiness for each medical transport mission.

For patients and families, this matters because the aircraft is not treated like a generic charter resource. It is maintained and supported with medical transport in mind.

For hospitals and case managers, this creates a more dependable coordination process, with direct communication between operations, maintenance, flight crew, and medical transport coordinators.

Aircraft Equipped for Medical Transport

Atlas Air Ambulance aircraft are configured to support patient care during flight, with medical equipment selected for the needs of air ambulance transport.

Depending on the patient’s condition and transport plan, onboard resources may support monitoring, oxygen needs, medication management, and critical care coordination during flight.

Our medical personnel also receive flight physiology training, helping them understand how altitude, cabin pressure, oxygen requirements, medications, and patient condition may be affected during air medical transport.
